Wales v Australia, Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, 4th November 2006
Well I'm not a big Rugby Union fan, but the chance to see Australia play Wales in Millennium Stadium seemed like a chance to good to pass up. So after buying 4 tickets, Andrew, Diana, Kerry and I set off for Cardiff. Hiring a car overall cost us 20 quid each rather than 54 for the train so we made a day trip of it. Around 73,500 people had the same idea for how to spend their day, but I would say that 70,000 of them were Welsh, and I felt quite outnumbered in my Wallabies jersey, especially considering the others barely had any colours on (nice try by Kerry, but it was cold so the black coat was on!). In short, the game was frustrating. It was the first time I have ever been brought to my feet by rugby union (when we scored our 4th try, I was very happy), but the handling errors in the second half by Australia, and the woeful scrum at the end in which we capitulated when we had a drop goal opportunity, all just made me angry! We should have won, but I felt given our errors, and Welsh fightback in the first half, maybe a draw was perfectly fair (although don't ask the Welsh supporter in front of us, he didn't really appreciate the referee at any moment)
