Australia vs. Pakistan at Lords Full Scorecard
Thanks to Simon for most of the photos, and Andrew for the panorama.
4th September 2004
A while ago I noticed that on the day after my birthday there was a
cricket game at Lords between Australia and Pakistan as a warm-up for
the ICC Champions Trophy in England. So I
emailed around and 7 of us bought tickets (and you can see 6 of us
below, somehow Jo managed to avoid all the digital photos).
Pakistan won the toss and decided to field, which was
good news from my point of view after staying up to watch the 1999 World
Cup final at Lords. Anyway, after a shaky start and some dropped
catches, Australia made 6 for 269 with 104 from Andrew Symonds and 52
from Matthew Hayden.
Of course when lunch came, there was a marching band (as
above), and Debs, being an absolute star, had made me massive Adelaide Crows
birthday cake which we had to sample. Thankfully Steve carried it to the ground because
it weighed a ton. We all had a huge slice (still leaving more than
half) and didn't really eat much for the rest of the day. (The
cake was really nice, and REALLY big)

Well the game got back underway and Pakistan started
poorly and were 4-66 at one stage before Inzamam-ul-Haq and Yousuf
Youhana rescued the innings with a partnership off 162. It was
getting close and when Mohammad Sami hit a massive 6, Pakistan only
needed 11 runs off 11 balls but they were 9 wickets down. The next
ball was a slower one from Kasprowicz which bowled him, leaving Pakistan
all out for 259.

So the game was over, the very vocal Pakistani support
was silenced and some very happy and quite possibly intoxicated
Australians near us launched into Waltzing Matilda. It was enough
to make you want to leave the ground and find a pub. Which is what
we did. Thanks again to Simon, Steve, Debs, Natalie, Jo and Andrew
for coming, and once again a special thanks to Debs for the amazing
cake!
