Since the sun had disappeared from England (we had our 1 month of summer after all), why not go searching for it in the South of France! Not only that,
why not catch the Eurostar to Paris, and then TGV to Avignon and Marseille. On Saturday in Avignon, it was 32, clear skies, and a really pretty and
exceptionally relaxing place with incredibly friendly French people (well the people who served us, getting onto trains is another matter). We looked
at the Palais de Papes (former Papal residence) and Pont d'Avignon (in a nursery rhyme apparently), and then had a fantastic meal right
in the town square for dinner. On Sunday we headed to Marseille, went to the Chateau d'If (fort, prison, and site of the Count of Monte Cristo's
imprisonment), as well as walking up to the Notre Dame de la Garde for some unbelievable views. A slow, relaxing, extremely pleasant weekend away!
